Machin Booklet Phosphor Bars

Many Machins that come from booklets have had the phosphor bars shortened, notched, or inset so that the phosphor does not "creep" onto a neighbouring stamp. This discussion is limited to booklet stamps only. Phosphor shifts are not included.

Short bars Short bars are those that do not extend the full height of the stamp.

Notched bars Notched bars are those that are missing a very small corner of the tag bar in one (or more) corners of the stamp.

Inset bars Inset bars are those that have a slightly narrower tag bar "pulled in" from one (or both) side of the stamp.

Split bars Split bars are those 2-bars that have no tag down the vertical perforations (ie. split).

The illustrations should be used as a guide only. The exact width, placement, or "shortness" of the tag will vary from those shown here (the offsets have been exaggerated).

The "Types" are presented in the order that they appeared over the many years - the date shown represents the first time that type appeared. Each of the values that the phosphor type exists on are listed, again, in the order of their appearance.
